Rare Labs

The Rare Labs at UCSD physics department studies fundamental interactions and probes the nature of elementary particles. We build state-of-art detectors in underground laboratories around the world to search for “rare” processes such as dark matter interaction with matter and neutrinoless double beta decay. The group currently plays central roles in the XENON1T/nT experiment at Gran Sasso Underground Lab and the nEXO experiment at SNOLab. We also conduct R&D on noble liquid detectors for future generation experiments. We always welcome talented students and postdocs to join us. See more details of our team and research.
